Prizes & Grants

The AILC-ICLA offers a number of prizes, grants and subventions to its members.

The focus is especially on Early Careers Researchers (including doctoral students), but we also aim to support mid-career and senior scholars, especially in cases when their circumstances do not allow them to fund their travel to ICLA Congresses.

Prizes and Subventions

Balakian Prize

Established from a joint donation from the family of Anna Balakian and the Friends of the AILC-ICLA, the prize is awarded to an exceptional first monograph in the field of comparative literary studies, written by a single author who has not attained the age of 40 years ($1000 + travel expenses up to $1000 to attend the Congress to receive the award)

ECARE First Book Subvention

This annual award provides funding for a subvention for an early-career scholar’s first book to be published as a monograph, in any language.

ECARE Best Graduate Paper Prize

This triennial prize is awarded to a graduate student who delivers an excellent paper at an International Congress of the AILC-ICLA.

This award is for an outstanding translation in the form or an article, chapter, or other short work, published by an early-career scholar in the period between ICLA Congresses.
